Final Contents Page

Final Cover

Image
From suggestions I received from classmates, I decided to make make cover page more minimalistic to appeal to audiences of all ages. I was happy with my final cover and how it turned out. The masthead and subtitles are all white because many people believed that colorful subtitles were tacky/childish. The subtitles are large and easy-to-read words that may attract audiences to pick up the magazine. I added a subtitle about the feature story so that readers could know what the magazine consisted of.

Double Page Process: Canva

I chose a template and replaced the picture with my own.  Then I added my own text, which was the final feature story that was previously posted on my blog. I combined both pieces of the double page spread. I edited the image used for the left side of the double page spread. I also added text to the image to make it known of who was in the picture.

Feature Story Responses

Resorting back to my previous post, the person I interviewed, Shaneika Lopez answered these questions accordingly:  1. What event in your life made you come to the realization that you wanted to start having a better diet? - "Ever since I was in elementary, my mother always told me that I needed to lose weight so that I could look like the other girls in my grade. With that, I decided that when I was old enough and could cook for myself, I would eat better foods in order to lose weight and tone up." 2. What is your version of a healthy diet? -"My version of a healthy diet consists of no red meats, as much veggies and fruits as possible, and as little processed foods as possible. I cook as often as possible so that I do not go out and get fast-food. This eliminates many foods that I try not to eat on the daily basis." 3. Do you ever get the urge to cave and eat unhealthy foods? - "Of course, who doesn't? It's hard when you really want

Final Feature Story

Shaneika Lopez sat in her room, crying, wondering why her mom would say such horrible things to her. She was only in elementary school, and certainly she shouldn’t be thinking about her weight at such a young age.   Her mother telling her, “Stop eating so much, you’ll get fat”, and other things that would only lower Shaneika’s self-esteem. Little did her mother know, these discrepancies only made Shaneika stronger, allowing her to become the young woman that she is now.   Lopez began her healthy lifestyle once she began middle school and was old enough to cook her own meals. Being bullied by her own mother caused her to change her eating habits and pick a lifestyle that would change her life for the better. Cooking healthy meals and staying on top of her workout 5 days out of the week. “Ever since I was in elementary, my mother always told me that I needed to lose weight so that I could look like the other girls in my grade,” Lopez states. “With that, I decided

Feature Story Questions

For my feature story, I decided to interview someone who is a clean eater and ask them some questions: 1. What event in your life made you come to the realization that you wanted to start having a better diet? 2. What is your version of a healthy diet? 3. Do you ever get the urge to cave and eat unhealthy foods? 4. What steps did you take to change the way you eat? 5. What motivates you to stay healthy? 6. What tips can you give for people that say healthy eating is more expensive than going out to eat or eating processed foods?

Elements of a Feature Story

Feature writing tells the reader a story, which I aspire to do within my double page spread. The feature story always starts with a lead, which will grab the reader's attention and drag them into the story. It continues with a nut graph, which is a summary of what the story is going to be about. Then, a direct quote connects with the nut graph. The transition after the quote allows the story to flow and it can be an important fact or use any transition words. The direct quote and transition sequence goes on until the story is done. My feature story will be using direct quotes from the interview questions that were posted previously.

Double Page Images

These images will be used for my double page spread because they show Shaneika in the act of cooking, which she talks about in the feature story. These images will be edited to become clearer and more vibrant. If needed, more pictures will be taken and these images will be finalized in the double pages spread.

Contents Page Draft

This is the first draft for my contents page, but I believe I will be changing the color scheme so that it’s more balanced. The end result will be posted as a final contents page.

This is a draft of the contents page process. I replaced their sample images with my own. I customized each color for the text. This is the original template of the contents page from Canva. Changing the colors of the text. I also changed the font of the text. I changed the text in each of the boxes to describe a healthier eating lifestyle.
